Calera Goes Pink Campaign Raises $43,262 in 14th Year Funding Alabama Breast Cancer Research

Calera’s Yearly Community Efforts Enable
Lifesaving Breast Cancer Research in Alabama

The City of Calera eagerly announces its continued partnership with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama (BCRFA) for the 14th consecutive year, completing a considerable accomplishment of raising $43,000 during the Calera Goes Pink! Campaign.

Each October, in conjunction with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the City of Calera comes together as a community, including individuals, businesses, and schools, to organize multiple events including a golf tournament, disc golf tournament, T-shirt sales, and numerous other pink-themed fundraisers. Since its inception in 2010, Calera Goes Pink has raised over $600,000.

Revenue from Calera Goes Pink directly assists the BCRFA in their efforts to fund innovative breast cancer research across the state of Alabama. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. The BCRFA aims to lower this statistic by investing in research that drives groundbreaking advancements that ultimately save lives. All funding stays in Alabama, but the impact is worldwide.

“Calera Goes Pink donates every dollar raised to BCRFA, which fuels research that promises to make the days ahead brighter,” said Kate Kiefer, BCRFA board member and Calera Goes Pink Organizer. “On behalf of the BCRFA, thank you to the City of Calera for their immense support for 14 consecutive years. Together, we are working to create a future free from breast cancer.”

This year, Calera Goes Pink started with the fourth annual Disc Golf Goes Pink disc golf tournament. Disc Golfers of all ages from across the region competed for a purpose at Oliver Park and George W. Roy Recreational Park on September 14.

On October 25, Calera High School hosted their annual “Pink Out” football game against Helena High School. The October events concluded with the Calera Goes Pink Golf Tournament at Timberline Golf Course on October 24.

In addition to generous contributions from individual community members, major corporate and community partners included Active Air, A.C. Legg, Bham Now, Central State Bank, DR Horton, Lhoist North America, Saginaw, Volare Wealth Advisors, Vulcan Imaging Associates – Women’s, and Wiregrass Construction.
