Local Fire Departments Raise Funds for Research

LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENTS RAISE FUNDS FOR BREAST CANCER RESEARCH

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama (BCRFA) and Alabama fire departments partner again for the “Pink Ribbon Project“ t-shirt campaign to raise money for local, live-saving breast cancer research.

During the month of October, many local fire departments across the state of Alabama will be selling specially designed pink t-shirts for $15 and $20.  Proceeds from each shirt will help the BCRFA provide seed dollars required to secure sustaining, national grants for breast cancer research at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Kate Kiefer, Board of Directors President of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama, said “We salute the men and women from our Alabama Fire Departments  for their every day sacrifices to protect our communities and for demonstrating that same passion used to raise dollars to fund research and save lives.”

The “Pink Ribbon Project” began in 2010 when the idea was sparked by the grass-roots fundraising efforts of several creative fire departments. The firefighters shared BCRFA’s passion for keeping the money raised in Alabama, to help attract the best and brightest researchers. The program was created in 2011 with the sale of the “Pink” fire department t-shirts.  Since then, the shirts have varied in color but the goal remains the same, to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research.

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama/Fire Department t-shirts are available at these twenty-one participating fire stations: Adamsville Fire & Rescue, Addison Rescue, Argo Fire Department, Black Pond Fire & Rescue, Center Point Fire District, Clanton Fire Department Double Springs Fire & Rescue, Fairfield Fire & Rescue, Forestdale Fire District, Hoover Fire Department, Jasper Fire & Rescue, Jemison Fire Department, Leeds Fire & Rescue, Mt. About the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama supports a comprehensive approach to battling breast cancer through support of collaborative and innovative research to help diagnose, treat, prevent and eradicate the disease. Since its inception in 1996, the BCRFA has raised over $5.8 million to fund research at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center and with their collaborative partners. All funds raised stay here in the state of Alabama, but the research will have a global, life-saving impact. BCRFA.org
