“Calera United” to Fund Research and Save Lives

Birmingham, AL– (December 26, 2019) The Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama (BCRFA) partnered with the City of Calera, Alabama to “Go Pink” for breast cancer research for the ninth year this October. This annual event raised over $53,000 to support breast cancer and raise awareness for the BCRFA. Proceeds from the month-long initiative help fund breast cancer research in Alabama.

The City of Calera united together as a community to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research in Alabama. Community members bought t-shirts, pink trinkets, and participated in the annual ‘Pink Out’ football game where Calera High school faced off against the Helena Huskies on November 1st. Helena also participated in selling breast cancer awareness t-shirts.

Additionally, one of the highlights from the month came in the form of the “Calera Goes Pink!” Golf Tournament. 152 golfers participated in this event hosted by Timberline Golf Club and presented by Active Air of Calera.

“Calera comes together each year to raise money for this worthy cause,” says Mayor Jon Graham. “The community support that is shown is unbelievable! Local businesses, schools, and community members working as one to help bring awareness to something that affects so many is the true meaning behind, ‘Calera United’.”

Kate Kiefer, Board of Directors member for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama and event chair said, “Calera has truly united to make a difference. Each year I am blown away by the amount of support that is shown from our sponsors and everyone involved in this month-long endeavor.”

While all BCRFA research dollars raised in Alabama will stay in Alabama, but the research and new treatments discovered reach breast cancer patients across the nation.
