BCRFA Presents Largest Donation Ever to Research!

BREAST CANCER RESEARCH FOUNDATION OF ALABAMA PRESENTS LARGEST DONATION EVER THANKS TO COMMUNITY SUPPORT

On Monday, February 1, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama (BCRFA) presented its largest donation ever of $775,000 to the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center.  Since its inception in 1996, the BCRFA has made an annual donation to research proceeds from all its fund-raising efforts during the prior year, including sales of specialty breast cancer research license plate, BCRFA events, and from individual and community support.

Community support during 2015 included 30 Alabama fire departments who participated in the Pink Ribbon Project, selling t-shirts during October to raise funds and awareness, along with dozens of other businesses, schools, and churches that used grassroots fundraising to raise money for breast cancer research.

As the BCRFA enters its 20th year of funding research and saving lives, the cumulative total for research funded at UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center surpasses $5.8 million. This year, over half of the total donation of $775,000 was raised through the BCRFA specialty car tag sales. Available at DMVs across the state, the Breast Cancer Research tag is the 9th most popular specialty tag in the state, with over 10,000 vehicles sporting the tag.

The BCRFA supports a comprehensive approach to battling breast cancer through collaborative and innovative research to help diagnose, treat, prevent and eradicate the disease. All of the funds raised remain in Alabama, supporting local research, which in turn makes a national impact.
