BCRFA Presents Largest Donation Ever to Cancer Center

BREAST CANCER RESEARCH FOUNDATION OF ALABAMA PRESENTS LARGEST DONATION EVER TO UAB COMPREHENSIVE CANCER CENTER.

On Tuesday, January 20, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama (BCRFA) will present its largest donation ever of $650,000, to the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center (UAB CCC).  Since its inception in 1996, the BCRFA has made an annual donation to the Cancer Center with the proceeds from all its fund-raising efforts during the previous year, including sales of specialty breast cancer research license plate, BCRFA events, and from individual and community donations.   This year’s contribution brings the Birmingham-based organization’s cumulative total for research at UAB to over $5.1 million.

The support of the BCRFA has been key to the success of the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center’s breast cancer research program, now recognized among the premier research programs in the United States. This longstanding partnership between the Cancer Center and BCRFA has provided UAB investigators with the resources to accelerate discovery and translate new knowledge into meaningful therapies for all types of breast cancer including the difficult-to-treat triple negative breast cancer.

An important note to make, when BCRFA gives to the UAB CCC that money stays at the Cancer Center, and stays right here in Alabama.  Several community partners of BCRFA include: Winn-Dixie, Docupak, Tameron Automotive, Belk, Sirote & Permutt, The Alabama Power Foundation, among many others.

About the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama was formed in 1996 with the goal of raising awareness of and funding for breast cancer research in the State of Alabama. With support from corporations and individuals, the Foundation has raised over $4.5 million in funding for breast cancer research at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center. UAB has been able to generate $16 million in grant funding from the “seed money” provided by the BCRFA, which has been instrumental in significant treatments that are now reaching women across the United States. www.bcrfa.org.
