2nd Annual BBQ Cook-off

BARBEQUE COOK-OFF RAISES FUNDS FOR BREAST CANCER RESEARCH

Birmingham, AL—On Saturday, May 3, 2014, the “CahabaQue” BBQ Cook-Off raised over $8,000 for The Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama and local breast cancer research.

The 2nd Annual event held at Cahaba Brewing Company on 3rd Avenue South hosted twelve cook teams as they competed for the best backyard barbeque and bragging rights with trophies and cash prizes. Winning 1st Place “Best CahaButt” was Swine Down Team Captain: Steven Sheils 2nd Place was The Pig Lebowski Team Captain: Andrew Rice and “People’s Choice Award” went to The Barbecutioners Team Captain: Jacob Swartz.

In the spirit of funding breast cancer research, both Swine Down and The Pig Lebowski donated their team prizes back to the BCRFA for breast cancer research.

Nearly 400 people attended the barbeque tasting and enjoyed a beautiful day supporting a wonderful cause with live entertainment by Wes and Greg (special guest singer Mandy Rae), Mayfield Ice Cream, Milo’s Tea and Lemonade, Coca Cola, Figi Water and Cahaba Brewing Company’s finest craft beer.

“We’re excited about the money we were able to raise for the foundation through CahabaQue, thankful for the people who attended and the support of each team and sponsor,” Eric Meyer, a Cahaba co-owner, said. “We hope the BBQ cook off becomes a local Birmingham event people look forward to yearly so that it continues to grow in support of the foundation.”

Cahaba Brewing Company plans to open registration and increase the size of the event to 30 cook teams for the 3rd Annual Cahaba-Que to be held in the spring of 2015.

ABOUT THE BREAST CANCER RESEARCH FOUNDATION OF ALABAMA (BCRFA)

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama (BCRFA), which has donated nearly $4.5 million towards the nationally recognized breast cancer research at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center.
