24th Annual Drive-Out Breast Cancer Golf Tournament Raises $110k

24TH ANNUAL DRIVE-OUT BREAST CANCER GOLF TOURNAMENT RAISES $110K FOR LOCAL BREAST CANCER RESEARCH

On May 20th, 2019 the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama (BCRFA) held its 24th Annual Drive-Out Breast Cancer Golf Tournament at Old Overton Club. Ninety-two players hit the green and with hopes of winning team rewards while raising money for breast cancer research. Participants also had a chance to try their luck at winning a new car by making a hole-in-one courtesy of Tameron Honda & Hyundai, the presenting sponsor of the tournament.

The Drive-Out Breast Cancer Golf Tournament is the event that launched the BCRFA as Bruce Sokol and Dolly O’Neal joined forces with a goal of raising money for breast cancer research in 1996. Their initial tournament netted $68,000 for breast cancer research at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Through their partnership, and lots of hard work and volunteers, the BCRFA was founded and has since raised over $8.7 million for breast cancer research at the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB and their collaborative partners. The golf tournament has continued to be the signature event for the BCRFA.

After spending the afternoon on the pristinely groomed course at Old Overton, the top teams of the tournament were recognized at an awards reception on the patio. The Low Gross winners were a team from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama, comprised of Brent Carter, Andy Moutardier, and Cameron Mosley. A foursome comprised of Lance Kitchens and Harris Wilson from Russo Corporation and Hunter Worley and Rick Passey from and Kirkpatrick Concrete took home the 1st Place Net award.

“Thanks to Tameron and all of our sponsors and players, we’re excited to announce that this year’s Drive-Out Breast Cancer Golf Tournament raised over $110,000 for breast cancer research here in Alabama,” said Beth Bradner Davis, executive director of the BCRFA. “The BCRFA is proud to support collaborative and innovative breast cancer research being done right here in Alabama, knowing the research will in turn make a national impact and ultimately save lives.”
