23rd Annual Drive-Out Breast Cancer Golf Tournament

23rd Annual Drive-Out Breast Cancer Golf Tournament Benefits the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama (BCRFA)

On May 14th, 2018 the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama (BCRFA) held its 23rd Annual Drive-Out Breast Cancer Golf Tournament at Old Overton Club. The event was presented by Tameron Honda & Hyundai. The annual golf tournament was started when BCRFA co-founders, Dolly O’Neal and Bruce Sokol, joined forces in 1996 with a goal of infusing additional funding and expanding breast cancer research at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Drive-Out Breast Cancer Golf Tournament was their inaugural – and very successful – fundraiser to support breast cancer research in our community.

“We’re excited to announce that this year’s Drive-Out Breast Cancer Golf Tournament raised over $110,000 for breast cancer research here in Alabama,” said Beth Bradner Davis, Executive Director of the BCRFA. “The BCRFA takes a comprehensive approach to battling breast cancer through support of collaborative and innovative research to help diagnose, treat, prevent and eradicate the disease. All of the funds raised throughout the year remain in Alabama, supporting local research, which in turn makes a national impact.”

At the awards dinner, the top teams of the tournament were recognized. The Low Gross award went to team Sokol, and 1st Place Net was won by team United Johnson Brothers of Alabama.

“We are proud to be a partner with the BCRFA on this event, and throughout the year, to help fund the research that will save lives,” stated Rob Gallik, General Manager for Tameron Honda, event presenting sponsor.

Other event sponsors include Sirote & Permutt, UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center, The Welden Family, Alabama Power Foundation, The Busby Family, Renesant Bank, Alabama Power Foundation, BCBS-The Caring Foundation, Thrivent Financial, ETC, O’Neal Wealth Management Group, KAMTEK, Lamar Advertising, Spectrum Reach, Stewart Lubricants & Service Co., and the Thompson Family. Beverages were provided by AlaBev, Coca-Cola Bottling Company, Milo’s Tea Co., and United Johnson Brothers of Alabama.

Media Partners for the tournament were B-Metro, Fox 6 WBRC, iHeartMedia (103.7 the Q and Magic 96), Lamar Advertising and Spectrum Reach.
