10th Annual Charity Bowl Raises Over $14,000

10TH ANNUAL CHARITY BOWL RAISES OVER $14,000 TO HELP TO SAVE LIVES ACROSS ALABAMA

As part of their ongoing support of breast cancer research, the Gardendale Youth Football Association is raised over $14,000 on Saturday, August 11th at the 10th Annual “Charity Bowl” at the Noble Youth Athletic Complex. Proceeds from the seven youth football games between Gardendale, Hoover, and Holtville benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama (BCRFA).

“The Gardendale Youth Football Association was excited to partner with both Hoover Youth Football and Holtville Youth Football to raise awareness and funding for breast cancer research in Alabama this year,” said Wes Fuller, President of the Gardendale Youth Football Association. “Over the past decade, this event has raised almost $165,000 and we are thankful to have had another successful event this year!”

“The Charity Bowl is an event that the BCRFA looks forward to each year, and we are honored that the Gardendale Youth Football Association has continued to choose breast cancer research as the focus of their fundraising,” said Carol Myers, BCRFA President. “These youth football games are such a wonderful way for the community to unite in support of a cause that is bigger than all of us, and we’re so thankful for the $14,000 for research raised this year.”

Although fundraising was the main focus of the event, the Charity Bowl also takes time to honor breast cancer survivors in attendance. During each game at halftime, those affected by breast cancer were invited to the field to be recognized for their courage and strength.

“We have all been touched by breast cancer, in some way,” said Mr. Fuller.  “This is our way of being part of the solution.  Our goal is to achieve two things: first, to fund research in Alabama, and second to teach our children at an early age to be good stewards of the community and support causes they believe in. The Charity Bowl is not your ordinary football game; it is a game with a purpose.”

About the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama is an independent 501C3 nonprofit organization supporting innovative research to help diagnose, treat, prevent and eradicate the disease. Since its inception in 1996, the BCRFA has contributed over $7.7 million to fund research at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center and their collaborative partners. All funds raised stay here in the state of Alabama, but the research has a global, life-saving impact.
