CahabaQue Tailgate Challenge raises Over $14K for local breast cancer research

A bi-annual Birmingham tradition received a tasty twist

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama (BCRFA) welcomed hundreds of supporters to CahabaQue Tailgate Challenge on Saturday, September 6, at Cahaba Brewing Company as they raised $14,620 for breast cancer research in Alabama. The event, which was a reimagined twist on the traditional CahabaQue bi-annual BBQ Cook-Off, attracted 500 guests to support breast cancer research.

“We are honored to host CahabaQue every spring and fall and we love witnessing our community come together for such an important reason,” said Eric Meyer, COO and co-owner of Cahaba Brewing Co. “The community, the food, the beer, and the generosity displayed at CahabaQue Tailgate Challenge truly made this event special.”

“CahabaQue Tailgate Challenge blended the fun and flavor of tailgating with support for BCRFA’s mission,” said Beth Davis, President & CEO of the BCRFA. “Every dollar raised helps fund groundbreaking research right here in Alabama, while also impacting lives globally. Because of the support from our sponsors, guests, cook teams, and volunteers, we continue to make advances in breast cancer diagnostics, treatments, and prevention, which brings us that much closer to finding a cure.”

The fall 2025 winners were chosen by event attendees. The winners were:

Best Meat: Mountain Brook Fire Station 1-A Shift
Best Dip/Side: Chief Grilldaddy and the Hose Draggers
Best Dessert: Mountain Brook Fire Station 1-A Shift
Best Tailgate: Ward Brothers BBQ

CahabaQue has raised over $350,000 for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama since it began in 20213. Breast cancer affects an estimated 1 in 8 women and 1 in 726 men in their lifetime. Almost 5,000 Alabama women will be diagnosed this year alone.

The next CahabaQue BBQ Cook-Off will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026. For more information on the event and other BCRFA fundraisers, visit bcrfa.org/events.
