15 Years Pink — And Stronger Than Ever
Fifteen years ago, Fire Chief Sean Kendrick, Dolly O’Neal and Kate Kiefer set out on a mission. They wanted to…

For Shavawn and her son Marcus, supporting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama is deeply personal. Their volunteerism is rooted in love, loss, and a shared commitment to creating a future where fewer families experience the devastation of breast cancer.
Shavawn’s passion for the mission comes from firsthand experience with the disease’s impact on her family.
“My mother and cousin lost their fight with breast cancer, and raising funds for research in addition to raising awareness will help save other fighters and families from the same pain,” she says. “I want to be a part of the solution.”
That desire to make a difference has inspired not only her own involvement but also that of her son, Marcus, who proudly volunteers alongside her.
For Marcus, supporting BCRFA is a way to honor his grandmother’s memory while helping others facing similar challenges.
“Wanting to support a cause for the future of those affected by breast cancer so they could have the hope of not going through what my grandmother went through,” Marcus shares. “I have always liked the idea of being a part of something bigger than myself that gives back, and being a part of BCRFA allows me to do that and to honor her memory.”
By turning their personal loss into purpose, Shavawn and Marcus are helping build a future filled with more survivors, more breakthroughs, and more hope for families across Alabama.
The BCRFA is so grateful for volunteers like Shavawn and Marcus whose compassion and commitment strengthen our mission every day.
