Fifteen years ago, Fire Chief Sean Kendrick, Dolly O’Neal and Kate Kiefer set out on a mission. They wanted to help fund research that would truly make a difference in the lives of breast cancer patients and their families – advancing treatment from diagnosis through recovery. They also wanted to engage the City of Calera in their goal. From those aspirations and a lot of dedication, Calera Goes Pink was born.
For the past 15 years, the City of Calera has been proudly “Going Pink” in support of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama. Every October, the Calera community comes together to raise funds for life-saving advancements in breast cancer research right here in Alabama. In 2025, Calera Goes Pink raised over $43,000 for breast cancer research. Since 2011, total support from the Calera community has grown to just shy of $600,000.
The effort and impact of the Calera Goes Pink campaign is truly community-wide. This year, Calera High School hosted their annual Pink Out football game to “Crush Cancer,” offering pink shirts for fans to wear as a symbol of unity and support. Local businesses also rallied behind the cause, sponsoring the Calera Goes Pink Golf Tournament at Timberline Golf Course, where golfers came out (even on a rainy day!) to join the fight against breast cancer.
In February, Mayor Kenny Dale Cost and members of the City Council met with Kate Kiefer for a photo that captured the spirit of Calera Goes Pink, demonstrating just how powerful a community can be when it unites behind a cause that touches so many lives. We are looking forward to the City of Calera joining us again for another 15 years of Calera Goes Pink!
Save the date for the 2026 Calera Goes Pink Golf Tournament at Timberline, Thursday, October 8th!
