Steven began volunteering with the BCRFA in January 2024 when he joined the BCRFA Board of Directors, motivated by a very personal mission.  He serves in honor of his mother, Susie, who passed away in 2022 after a long and courageous battle with breast and lung cancer.  During her journey, Susie benefited greatly from advancements in breast cancer research.  Through his involvement with BCRFA, Steven hopes to play a meaningful role in continuing the critical work of advancing breast cancer research for future patients and their loved ones.

Steven and his wife, Erin, live in Homewood with their one-year old son, Sims, and their two black labs, Theta and Weller.  As active members of Homewood Community Church, faith, family and service are central to their lives.  Steven brings those values with him into his volunteer work, offering his time and talents as an Audit Senior Manager at KPMG LLP to support the mission of BCRFA. Steven currently serves as BCRFA’s Treasurer.

When asked to share a one-sentence inspirational quote, Steven chose words from legendary American long-distance runner Steve Prefontaine: “To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.”  That mindset perfectly reflects Steven’s approach to volunteering-serving with purpose and commitment to giving his very best in honor of his mother and all those impacted by breast cancer.
