Breast Cancer Research Foundation of AlabamaWins Coveted “Outstanding Charitable Organization” Award
Birmingham, AL – On National Philanthropy Day, November 13, 2007, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama was honored as the “Outstanding Charitable Organization” by the Alabama Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. Only a select few received honors during the luncheon at the Sheraton Downtown, which celebrated the talents and generosity of outstanding volunteers, corporations, and nonprofit leaders.
Among them was our own Dolly Ashton O’Neal, who accepted the Award for “Outstanding Charitable Organization” on behalf of the board and volunteers of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama. Co-founder, Bruce Sokol, along with other board members and friends, were on hand at the luncheon to celebrate this singular honor.
As co-founder and past president of the organization, Dolly O’Neal’s vision and dedication to help fund the cure for breast cancer have been the driving force for the success of the Foundation. For over 12 years Dolly has worked tirelessly with other dedicated volunteers to implement a variety of innovative fundraising initiatives: chief among them is the Drive Out Breast Cancer LPGA Pro-Am Golf Tournament.
The Breast Cancer Research Foundation has raised over $2 million since its inception to help fund research initiatives at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center focused on finding a cure for breast cancer. The BCRFA is grateful to Dr. Shirley Salloway Kahn, Vice President for Development, Alumni, and External Relations at UAB, for having nominated the organization for this prestigious award. The BCRFA salutes Dolly O’Neal and Bruce Sokol for their vision, dedication, generosity and support of the organization whose efforts continue to enhance the quality of life for all battling breast cancer.
